Yoga is a practice and lifestyle that calms the mind and centres the body. It restores balance, helps work through stuck emotions and improves mobility and flexibility. The numerous benefits are achieved during class through specific asanas (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathwork). Yoga is not about getting into the perfect yoga posture or being flexible but the journey and what you learn along the way. The yoga mat resembles a safe space of acceptance of who you are when you step on the mat. It will support you through your practice. Yoga is for everyone and does not discriminate based on ability, age, race, gender, sex or ethnicity.

Pilates

Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise that aims to strengthen muscles while improving postural alignment and flexibility

Alana is a yoga, pilates, and aerial fitness instructor with over 500 hours of teacher training. In her classes, she likes to laugh, create a playful and inclusive environment, and provide tidbits of yoga philosophy to encourage self-reflection. Alana sees yoga as a means of self-expression and encourages her students to find what version of the pose feels right for them, on that date.

Honouring the roots yoga – an Indian practice that has crossed time and space to us in the west – is important to Alana. Self-study, or svadhyaya, is a common theme in her classes, as is tapas or building fire and heat through discipline and challenge.

When not in the studio, you can find Alana writing, reading, cuddling her cat, taking nature photos, or on a hike somewhere under the trees.
